Chiesi USA, a North Carolina specialty pharmaceutical company based in Cary, contributed more than $830,000 to multiple non-profit organizations across the Tar Heel State in 2022. The company supported multiple Triangle-area nonprofits supporting children and families.

Through its Chiesi in the Community (CITC) corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, Chiesi USA provided funds to more than 50 different charitable organizations. The nonprofit organizations supported by Chiesi include those groups advancing diversity, equity and inclusiveness, as well as patient support in critical care, neonatology, cystic fibrosis and rare diseases.

Some of the organizations supported include programs aimed at food security, volunteer mobilization, medical care and financial stability. Some of the donor companies include:

Additionally, Chiesi USA created the Strikeout Sponsor program in partnership with the Durham Bulls. Each time a Bulls pitcher strikes out a player at the team’s home stadium in Durham, Chiesi will make a donation to a nonprofit partner.

Stephanie Musante, senior manager of Customer and Community Relations at Chiesi, said CITC, which is an employee-led initiative, is a “direct reflection” of the company’s core value to serve as a force of good within the community.

Jon Zwinski, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Chiesi USA noted that North Carolina isn’t merely a place of operations for the company, it’s home. It’s the area where company employees build their lives and become positive members of the various communities in the region. That’s why Chiesi USA uses its resources to partner with area nonprofits and charitable organizations.

“It means taking care of the people who live and work around us, our neighbors. For me personally, I’m thrilled to see our involvement deepen over the years to provide sustainable, tailored support. We could not do it without our dedicated employees who grow this program and achieve new heights for Chiesi in the Community every year,” said Zwinski, who is also a board member of Children’s Flight of Hope.

In addition to its support of N.C.-based charitable groups, Chiesi also strengthened its partnership with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). In 2022, Chiesi and Maryland-based ASHP collaborated in support of recruitment and retention programs for pharmacy technicians. That built on Chiesi’s existing sponsorship the ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Leadership Scholars program, which provides grants to advance diversity, equity, inclusion and access in healthcare.

Other national organizations supported by Chiesi USA include:

Chiesi USA, Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of family-owned Chiesi Farmaceutici S.p.A, a global R&D-focused pharmaceutical company based in Parma, Italy. The U.S. subsidiary is focused on developing therapeutics for acute cardiology, neonatology, cystic fibrosis and rare diseases.
